Peaceful protesters, known as the #Stansted15, have been sentenced for endangering safety at aerodromes. Three of them were given nine month sentences suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out unpaid work. Eleven defendants were given community orders and must carry out 100 hours' unpaid work. One was given rehabilitation activity. Quakers are supporting the group who say their nonviolent direct action was in defence of human rights.

Today, 6 February 2018, marks 100 years since the Representation of the People Act was granted Royal Assent and became law. It was a landmark piece of legislation. For the first time, women were explicitly included in the franchise for national elections. Another year gone by, that felt so quick. It was another eventful year of difficult moments - with conflicts, political tension, and financial uncertainty all around us. As I write this blog, I often ask myself: how do we keep the light of hope and faith alive? I struggle to convey a positive message, given the state of the world. However, I try to look at the small achievements and the breadth of work we do to keep that sliver of positivity alight.
