Informed prayer, prayerful action: a call from Palestinian Christians
The theme and service this year comes from Palestinian Christian women living in Palestine. We are all encouraged to pray for peace, justice and freedom of religion and movement. They ask us to pray especially for women, refugees, the sick, dying and grieving in their country, and also beyond.

General Election 2024: A guide to the manifestos
We are now just over halfway through the general election campaign. From the nation's racetracks, runways, and rollercoasters, UK politicians are reaching out to the public with their ideas of where to take society in the next five years. The recently released party manifestos provide a crucial lens through which we can evaluate how our values align with the proposed policies and commitments that our political leaders have made.

6 ways our new government could build a peaceful and sustainable world
Now that the UK has a new government, many will be watching to see how Labour's campaign translates into reality. We'll be hoping, of course, that it will result in positive changes for two topics that perhaps were not as prominent in the election campaign as we would have liked: climate justice and peace.

Charting a path post-election
On 4 July, the Labour party won the election with 410 MPs and an effective working majority of 181. It won a popular mandate based on "change", and "a government of national service", after nearly a decade and a half of Conservative rule in one form or another. Where and, perhaps more importantly, how, do Quakers fit into this era of "change"?

A path to a better future: David Gray writes from Brummana High School in Lebanon
Lebanon is in a dilapidated state today, as indeed it has been for several years. It has suffered from a series of catastrophes: the overthrow of its government in 2019, the Beirut explosion of 2020, and the overwhelming economic collapse of 2019. This continues until today with rates of inflation still running at 190% and capital controls in the banks which have seen many people lose their entire life savings and, if they had them, their occupational pensions reduced to 5% of their actual value. For us in Lebanon the pandemic and subsequent lockdown were just another event but perhaps had less impact and preserved the peace in a way which would not be understood in the West.

The long-term cost of war: how sending landmines to Ukraine undermines the fight for a mine-free future
After I spoke on the radio back in 2023 about peace and pacifism in the context of the war in Ukraine, I had a Quaker get in touch with me. One problem with war, he said, was its corrupting nature "even on those whose cause, like the Ukrainians, is just". Over time, groups and countries can start to use tactics that they earlier condemned, such as the use of landmines.
