What is this committee responsible for?

APC is the key committee responsible for shaping the agenda for Yearly Meeting sessions. To do this the committee takes account of past feedback from Friends, considers minutes and correspondence, and tries to keep in mind 'how the spirit is moving' among Friends in Britain Yearly Meeting. APC keeps in contact with the committees and staff planning the YM programmes for children and young people.

What did it do at this meeting?

APC looked at the evaluations received following the last YM session. Feedback was positive overall and was used to inform the planning for the upcoming sessions.

APC received a good number of minutes from area meetings and other Quaker groups and spent time discerning whether and how to take these forward. Some of these will be included in future YM agendas, while others will be worked on further by other committees or by the groups that sent them.

The next YM session will take place at Friends House and online on 21 November. APC agreed the draft agenda, including the key matters that will be put before Friends for discernment. The full agenda will be published on the website at the end of October, but items for consideration will include the launch of the new draft Book of Discipline, names for inclusion on the court and prison register, reparation for Quaker complicity in enslaving and trafficking Africans, proposed changes to the Quaker marriage declaration, and the BYM Trustees annual report and accounts for 2025.

APC agreed a draft agenda for February 2027, when items for consideration are expected to include a return to the topic of membership, as well as further information on how to 'Read, Reflect, Respond' to the draft Book of Discipline. APC has also been looking further ahead, with items being prepared for consideration at future YM sessions.
