Quakers and Creeds: The Legacy of Nicaea

6 October 2025, Online

British Quakers are a non-credal church, with a focus on direct spiritual experience. This session explores the Council of Nicaea, examining the historical formation of creeds, their purpose, and how their legacy continues to influence Christian identity and how this relates to Quakerism.

In this session, we'll explore key questions such as:

  • What happened at Nicaea?
  • How far was Nicaea successful?
  • How do we understand the relationship between God and Jesus?
  • This session is part of a series on 'Quakers and Creed' as 2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. Participants will be invited to consider their own relationship to the themes explored in breakout sessions. These sessions will particularly appeal to Friends who already work with local Church groups, or Friends who want to reflect more deeply about the relationship between the Religious Society of Friends and other Christian bodies.
