Quakers and Care: Pastoral Friends and Eldership

19 January - 2 February 2027, Online

Elders and Pastoral Friends play a critical part in supporting the spiritual life and physical wellbeing of Quaker Meetings. But where did these roles come from in Quaker communities, and how have they changed over time and space?

Over the three weeks, participants will explore the origins and development of Quaker eldership and pastoral support. This course examines why these roles emerged among early Friends, how they have evolved as Quakerism expanded throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and how these roles are understood and practiced by Friends in different global contexts today.

No prior knowledge or experience is needed to participate.

Live sessions will take place on Zoom at 19:00-20:30 (UK time) every Tuesday.
