Navigating Change Well as Quaker Communities

7 - 28 January 2026, Online

All Quaker communities experience change, whether small or significant. Change can open up new possibilities, but it can also bring challenge, especially for role-holders. In this four-session course, we will create a supportive space to share experiences and explore ways forward together.

Zoom session weekly on a Wednesday 19:00-21:00, UK time

We will look at questions such as:

  • How do authority and responsibility function in Quaker Meetings?
  • How can we navigate change 'well', and how can we prepare for challenges?
  • What are some of the tried and tested Quaker tools and practices that build resilient communities?
  • The course builds week by week, so we encourage Friends to commit to all four sessions in order to form a temporary community of learning, reflection, and trust.

Facilitators are Alistair Fuller, Quaker Life's Team Lead for Community, who has accompanied Friends and Meetings across Britain through times of change, and Elize Sakamoto, Woodbrooke staff tutor and co-clerk of QPSW Central Committee during significant structural shifts in Quakers in Britain following the pandemic. Depending on the issues raised, we may also invite staff and practitioners with further experience in supporting Meetings through critical events.

You can expect to return to your Meetings feeling more encouraged, upheld and better equipped to address differences and difficulties that are integral to change and growth, and to keep working towards unity, dialogue and collaboration among Friends.
