Food for the Journey: diversity and inclusion

10 September 2022, Birmingham

A day of refreshment for Quakers working on diversity and inclusion in their local Quaker communities. Enjoy conversation and worship, the grounds of the Woodbrooke Centre, and inspiring words from guest speaker Robert Beckford.

This retreat builds on the Diversity and Inclusion Gatherings held at Woodbrooke in 2019 and 2020, and is for Quakers who are already involved in work around equity, justice, power and privilege. The day focusses on food for the journey, drawing on the spiritual source of our strength that helps us take the next step.

The day begins with input from Robert Beckford, an activist scholar and recently appointed Direct of the Institute of Climate and Social Justice at the University of Winchester. After lunch, you will have the space for quiet reflection, and the opportunity to share the joys and difficulties of this important work in small groups. The day ends with worship.

This retreat is pay-as-led, meaning that the event is open for all to attend with an option of making a donation. For those who are able, we recommend a donation of £50 or more for the day.

If you would like to stay at the Woodbrooke Centre on the Friday or Saturday nights, please book overnight accommodation directly with the Woodbrooke Centre.

Please note that this is a loving, brave space for people who are comfortable with all aspects of our commitment to equality.
