Exploring Threshing and Clearness for Quaker Role Holders

27 August 2025, Online

How can Quaker methods of threshing and clearness help us make good decisions, even in difficult situations?

This course will support you in understanding these processes and consider how to use them, with particular emphasis on the role of elders and clerks. Quakers do many things differently, especially when it comes to decision making. This session will help Friends to define and explore threshing, clearness and other different concepts and practices available to us as part of a whole group and in time spent in break out rooms.

This session is for both those new to Quakerism and who are more seasoned. While the emphasis is on eldership and clerkship in using threshing and clearness, you do not need to be in these roles to appreciate their responsibilities. Indeed, understanding their roles is fundamental to the communal process.

All Quakers ought to invest time in learning about what could be considered basic practices in order for us to keep working together faithfully as a community and to be the change we want to see in the world.
