Essentials of Quaker Eldership
14 December 2026, online
Being a Quaker elder can be inspiring but also challenging. This is a monthly space for those with eldership responsibilities to come together to consider and learn how to serve as an effective elder in your Quaker community. The focus of this session is 'Self-Nurture Session for Quaker Elders'.
Please note that the start time to the 90mins session is now 7pm, not 7.30pm.
Each session will be an opportunity to explore issues and ask questions arising from carrying out your responsibilities as an elder for your Quaker community. You will gain insights from the experienced tutors as well as fellow participants to find solutions.
The session is held in collaboration with BYM. One of the tutors from Quaker Life (BYM) or Woodbrooke who are experienced in eldership in a number of Quaker settings will facilitate the monthly topic-based sessions.
While we will refer to live issues and case studies, we highly recommend that you come ready with the main resource book on eldership, With a Tender Hand (2015), in addition to the Book of Discipline (5th Edition).
The sessions are held on the second Monday of every month (including August and December). Come to all or any. It is not a drop-in but you can book right up to the start of the session at 7pm.
Programme for May to December 2026*:
*Some topics may appear similar or repetitive but you will always receive something new and further your understanding and confidence in your role if you are open.
