Climate resilience: what could a Quaker role be?

Resilience is a phrase that's used when talking about a broad range of topics: from the quality of the relationships we have with the people on our street to the number of tinned beans we have in our cupboard to the fuel which powers national energy infrastructure.

This event brings together three speakers working on climate change from different angles, to help Quakers start thinking about what our community contribution to climate resilience could be.

Mercy Miroya is a Quaker peace and climate activist. She leads Friends Ecojustice Practical Action, an organization established to advance Quaker testimonies of peace and sustainability in Western and North Rift Kenya. Their work includes providing emergency relief to those impacted by landslides worsened by climate change.

Gail Bradbrook is the Co Founder Source of Extinction Rebellion. Her current work grapples with 'Being the Change' through cross community collaborations, repair and meta strategy. This includes working on 'Lifehouse Network', supporting communities to prepare for climate, food and finance system, and possible civilizational collapse (draft website here).

Keir Milburn is a writer, researcher, and consultant. He is the author of Generation Left (2019 Polity) and co-author of Radical Abundance: How to Win a Green Democratic Future (2025 Pluto). He has a background as an academic in political economy and organisation theory and is currently co-director of the action-research think tank Abundance, who aim to democratise the economy and realise a just socio-ecological transition for everyone.

There will be a short talk from each speaker followed by time for questions and discussion.
