Changing the Conversation on Asylum in the UK

16 June 2022, Online

This evening event, coming just before Refugee Week, offers a chance to hear from those in the asylum system working to change the conversation on asylum through art, poetry and activism.

How can we help amplify their voices, and how might we engage with others with different views to ours? We will take a fresh look at how language shapes the way we see people and provide a 'take-home toolkit' to help you contribute to changing the conversation.

We will be joined by people who have experienced and are experiencing the asylum system and hear how they are taking action to let people in the UK know the detrimental effects it is having on people's lives.

The session will be facilitated by members of Quaker Asylum and Refugee Network (QARN) https://qarn.org.uk/ . QARN works to change the way refugees and asylum seekers are treated, and seeks to ensure that justice and compassion are the guiding principles. It is a supportive network helping to keep Quakers working in this area in touch with one another and informed of the latest developments, news and opportunities to work for change.
