A Meeting of Quaker and Buddhist Mystics
26 August 2025, Online
This session will explore the spiritual similarities between the Quaker contemplative Thomas R Kelly (1893-1941) and the Japanese Buddhist master Shinran (1173-1263).
Over the course of an hour we will explore Shinran and Kelly's devotion to the divine, their acknowledgement of human limits. In the session Friends will have an opportunity to reflect on their own limits, and the abiding human need for an experience of loving transcendence. Satya will share how such experiences have shaped her life, inspiring and deepening her own Buddhist practice and wider ministry.
This session will appeal to Friends who possess a dual Quaker/Buddhist identity, or participants who want to go deeper in their appreciation of mystical or contemplative practice.
