QLCC 13 June 2026

Quaker Life Central Committee (QLCC) looked in detail at work to support governance of local and area meetings, including mitigation of governance risks. They also received the evaluations of programmes for youth, children and families at Yearly Meeting in May, and received updates on new ways into membership and on the Programmes & Prioritisation Committee.

What is this committee responsible for?

QLCC guides all Quaker work to support Quaker communities to grow, thrive and be inclusive.

What did it do at this meeting?

We looked in detail at work to support governance of local and area meetings, in areas such as trusteeship and treasurership. It was good to hear that there is now more consistent contact with Quaker meetings and roleholders, and to get an update on how Quaker Life has worked to mitigate the five top governance risks identified by Quaker Stewardship Committee when it was laid down. (These were: responding to enquiries; helping excepted/unregistered AMs register as charities; help excepted/unregistered AMs create comprehensive lists of property and assets; support compliance with charity regulators; and update the trustees' handbook.)

We heard the positive evaluations of the programmes for under-19 at the Yearly Meeting sessions in May. These saw the biggest number of participants since before the Covid-19 pandemic, and we have a good, enthusiastic volunteers who are essential to the smooth running of all the events.

We also received a brief update on the new ways into membership work, which will be a major topic at the Yearly Meeting session in July. The committee considered how it wants to relate to the new Programmes & Prioritisation Committee, which began work earlier this year.
