Threads in Common: Textiles as Witness in Wartime

9 October 2026, London

We're taking part in the Bloomsbury Festival in October. We've partnered with researchers from Huddersfield University's collaborative project Threads in Common to facilitate textiles workshops based on their research.

Step into Friends House Library for a creative workshop exploring how Bloomsbury's modernist artists responded to the challenges of the First World War. In 1916, amid the cacophony of the western front, Bloomsbury artists and Quakers collaborated on an experimental textile project that offered refugee women paid work and creative expression. In this hands on session, you'll be able to try simple embroidery inspired by the Omega Studio's original designs and get up close to objects and archives rarely seen by the public.
