International Conscientious Objectors' Day 2025
15 May 2025, London
Friends are invited to a ceremony of remembrance marking International Conscientious Objectors' Day. The event will commemorate those, past and present, who have claimed the right to refuse to kill - a peaceful way of marking the 80th anniversary of the Second World War.
On this 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, we will hear about those who, often at great personal cost, refused to take up arms in that global conflict. We'll also be hearing testimonies from conscientious objectors around the world who are living out their convictions today; and hearing about the so called 'refuseniks' in Israel.
A choir will sing songs of conscientious objection; and the names of 85 representative conscientious objectors will also be read out, one from every country where we know men and women have made a stand.
If you can't make it to London, you can visit the Peace Pledge Union website for news of other ICOD events around the country or to watch a live broadcast of the Tavistock Square event.
