Working for peace in East Africa during the Covid-19 crisis

Updated 29 April 2020

Coronavirus has now reached East Africa. Unlike many European countries, most governments in East Africa were very quick to impose movement restrictions in an effort to lessen the spread of the virus.

It's time to Build Back Better for a safe and just future

Updated 11 June 2020

Even as the Covid-19 lockdown rules are loosened, I am hearing many people say they believe things will never get 'back to normal'. Of course, we all crave a 'normal' where we can see our friends and family, and where key workers can do their jobs without fearing for their lives. But 'normal' was a state of affairs that was failing millions of people.

How are Quakers meeting? A summer snapshot from around Britain

Updated 13 August 2020

A joy and privilege of my work is spending time in the lives of Quaker meetings. Over the last few months, I've seen Quakers respond creatively, faithfully and lovingly to the challenges presented by Covid-19. We welcomed with deep relief the end to the recent round of bombing in Gaza and firing of rockets into Israel. But while the world's attention may have moved on, the violence and structural oppression of the military occupation of Palestine has not ended and the struggle for equal rights continues.

Nurturing the spiritual life of our communities

Updated 22 December 2022

I am somebody who reflects on what is nourishing me spiritually quite regularly. Whether it be wild swimming, singing in harmony or a windy walk on the moors, I find a range of activities help fill up my spiritual cup. Quaker worship is an important part of my spiritual life and it is where I am part of an intergenerational community. I feel lucky that a large part of my role as a Local Development Worker is supporting Friends to ask the question 'what are we finding spiritually nourishing' – not as individuals but as a whole Quaker community.

Updated 6 November 2023

The scale of the violence and harm to civilians is unprecedented and unlike anything in living memory. Hospitals, schools, places of worship, roads, and homes have been decimated, and civilians have been targeted. Faith groups and human rights agencies across the world have called on the international community to act immediately to secure a ceasefire and work to ensure humanitarian aid and access.

Informed prayer, prayerful action: a call from Palestinian Christians

Updated 29 February 2024

The theme and service this year comes from Palestinian Christian women living in Palestine. We are all encouraged to pray for peace, justice and freedom of religion and movement. They ask us to pray especially for women, refugees, the sick, dying and grieving in their country, and also beyond.
