A New Meeting House: Ashburton Quaker Meeting

Updated 16 August 2019

Friends living in Ashburton had attended meeting for worship at Totnes, about eight miles away. Friends in the area had also met as a mid-week group for four years. When a disused chapel was placed up for sale in Ashburton, Friends in the town explored the idea of having a presence in Ashburton for the first time.

As a small meeting it had to take bold steps.

The right people for the job: Cirencester

Updated 16 August 2019

Gloucestershire Area Meeting owns two flats in Cirencester. These are let and produce an income for the area meeting. Until 2017, the local meeting managed the properties on behalf of the area meeting. This took considerable time for Friends who were on the premises committee. They had to liaise with tenants as well as identify and report maintenance work. Friends had to ensure work was carried out to a high standard.
