Reflections from Labour and Conservative party conferences
On Sunday 25 September I packed up my laptop, dusted off my smart trousers, and headed up to Liverpool for Labour party conference. The following Sunday, I travelled to Birmingham to rub shoulders with the Conservatives. The aim of attending the conferences was to gather intelligence on what the two main parties were planning, to build relationships, and to promote Quakers and their priorities.

Talking across the divide
In this time of growing division, my encounters with people who have radically different beliefs to mine are few and far between. My circles are becoming the classic echo chamber of familiar news stories. I am scared that in another ten years' time these conversations won't just be uncomfortable, talking across the divide might be impossible.

Taking my seat again: four years being Churches Together in England's 'Empty Chair' President
Four and a half years ago I set up a blog. It was to be called 'Adventures in Ecumenism' and I was planning to explore and share my work as one of the Presidents of Churches Together in England. Sadly, this turned out to be horribly premature: I was not able to take up the role of Fourth President of CTE. Having instead just finished my role as convenor of the Fourth Presidency Group of churches, I'm looking back at that time, what's happened since, and the impacts – both harmful and hopeful – that emerged from that decision.

5 ways to witness for peace
We have all watched in horror as thousands of civilians are killed and displaced in Gaza, in response to the atrocious attacks by Hamas in Israel on 7 October. As Quakers in Britain we have felt compelled to speak out and take action and Friends across the country have too.

What next for loss and damage at COP28?
As we go into COP28, it's important to remember the unthinkable can happen when we stand together and apply pressure.

At the crossroads of climate justice and migrant rights
Across our Yearly Meeting, the issues of climate justice and migrant rights are live concerns. Although they are often carried forward by different groups of Friends, they are somehow held invisibly together within our Quaker meetings. But in our wider communities, efforts to tackle these two issues aren't often unified, and it means that climate campaigning can sometimes feed into unintended harm on migrant issues.

Faith based witness is needed more than ever, and there is plenty to get involved in
Over the last few months Quakers in Britain staff have been hearing from many Quakers concerned about the crackdown on dissent. Most are outraged; some are resigned, others scared. Many more want to do something but are confused about what is and isn't 'permissible' in a rapidly changing context.
