Junior Yearly Meeting 2024
26 - 30 July 2024, London
Junior Yearly Meeting (JYM) is a welcoming, exciting and thought-provoking event for young people that is open to anyone born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2008. JYM 2024 will be a residential event in central London.
Whether you have recently discovered Quakerism or have been a Quaker all your life, JYM offers the opportunity to meet new people, make friends through social activities and engage with spiritual practices and ideas.
The event is run by young people, who are supported by a team of adults.
This year's theme, as chosen by the young people, is:
“How can we nurture love in our actions?"
This year's event happens at the same time as the Yearly Meeting of Quakers in Britain. So, everyone attending can join all-age sessions as well as the JYM programme of activity sessions, small groups, speaker sessions, and Quaker worship.
“Everyone had a smile on their face and made me feel welcome."
You will explore the JYM theme through speaker sessions, discussions, reflection and Quaker Meetings for Worship for Business.
“Best Quaker event I've ever been to (probably)."
JYM is also a spiritual event with the opportunity for you to experience Quaker practices and worship.
“Fun, friends, learning about Quakerism."
Social activities and small groups, called base groups, will provide a place to build relationships and play games.
“It was a very safe space in which I felt comfortable talking to new people about important topics and expressing myself."
There are two ways to come to JYM, by nomination or by an open place.
Young people are "nominated" to attend the event. This means that area meetings, Quaker schools or overseas yearly meetings ask young people whether they would like to attend.
Information about JYM nominations was sent to area meeting clerks in November 2023. This includes these documents:
- JYM 2024 nominations letter
- JYM 2024 nominations guidance
- JYM 2024 named contact person supporting notes
- JYM 2024 leaflet for young people
If a young person would like to be nominated to come to JYM, speak to your meeting clerk or headteacher (Quaker schools). If you don't know your meeting clerk, contact Young People's Administration & Project Officer (details below) and they will be happy to put you in touch.
To apply for an open place, contact Young People's Administration & Project Officer (details below) and they will be happy to give you further information.
There are two deadlines for coming to JYM. The first is for Nominations and open places; the second is for the parent/guardian to confirm that the young person would like to come to JYM.
The deadline for area meetings to make nominations and for open place bookings is Sunday 24 March 2024
The deadline for parent/guardian and participants confirming places is Sunday 8 April 2024
