My concern was, and is, that governments will fail to act to stop carbon dioxide emissions before it is too late. This led to the idea that if world leaders were held in the Light daily at 21:00, for one minute, they would find the courage to resist the huge fossil fuel lobby, and take life-saving decisions to halt climate change at the international negotiations in Paris (COP21).

As Quakers we are called to act for peace and justice. Peace Hub seeks to provide a centre from which an inclusive community is inspired to take up this call. Peace Hub is a new venture launched by Central England Quakers in November 2014.

Capel Quaker Orchard

In April 2012, keen to demonstrate support for the Canterbury Commitment for Quakers to become a sustainable community, Capel Local Meeting organised a 'sustainability day' in the village. 'Capel goes green' and other 'green' groups in the area were invited, including members of Dorking community orchard project. During the day, the idea was born of using the large area of unused land in the grounds of Capel Meeting House to plant a community orchard.

Quakers want justice for those affected by climate change. The poorest are often the hardest hit by shifts in the climate. Globally they have less access to energy.Led by their belief in equality, Quakers in Britain campaign for everyone to have access to affordable energy that does not harm the planet. This weekend, ahead of the Paris climate summit, Quakers will join thousands across the world on the People's March for Climate, Justice and Jobs, They will call for climate justice.

Welfare reform will hit the poorest hardest

Quakers in Britain was one of 20 organisations who signed a letter in The Daily Telegraph today outlining our concerns on welfare reform. Parliament is currently considering the Welfare Reform and Work Bill, which proposes a raft of further cuts to our social security system.
