Quakers and Kindertransport
The Germany Emergency Committee of the Religious Society of Friends was set up in 1933, shortly after Hitler came to power. This committee, alongside other groups, was responsible for helping Jewish children escape Nazi persecution in Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Poland. It then supported them in the countries to which they had fled. This is known as the Kindertransport.

We can feel ashamed or paralysed if we can't convert that care into action. Following 'The Big One' Extinction Rebellion protest in London in April, a Quaker told me that the real challenge wasn't the protest – it was coming home.

My circles are becoming the classic echo chamber of familiar news stories. I am scared that in another ten years' time these conversations won't just be uncomfortable, talking across the divide might be impossible.
