As Quakers, our natural inclination is to stay away from events which seem to glorify Britain's military past. Instead we may wish to focus on events that focus on the cost of war, and that encourage people to work for peace.

Quakers do not have a creed, a statement that sums up our core beliefs, but for centuries we have used a short list of Advices and queries to guide us to question ourselves and discern how we are each led to act. Tellingly, they are offered 'for the comfort and discomfort of Friends' while we seek our own ways forward, listening for the inner Light.

'And Still We Rise' brought together almost 1000 people and 100 speakers from 25 different countries around the world. It was the latest event in a long tradition of hosting movements for social justice at Friends House. A tradition of movement generosity (i.e. thinking about how those with space and resources can share what they have with movements to build a peaceful and sustainable world) which Quakers in Britain is committed to practising.
