24 February, London: Defending Human Rights Defenders Conference

A conference being jointly organised by the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers, Amnesty International and European Lawyers for Democracy and Human Rights. At the Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre in the heart of London. Registration for the event will begin at 8.30am.
 
Tickets will be on sale from 1st February and priced at £30 for UK residents, £15 for non-UK residents and £10 for students/unwaged. Surround Hinkley on the 10 March. This will become a 24hr blockade ending on the 11th March. We are protesting at Hinkley, the first proposed site of new nuclear development in the UK, to say no to the use of this toxic technology, it will not be part of our future.

Turning the Tide in collaboration with Huddersfield Quakers and other local peace and justice groups are hosting a series of workshops called 'Nonviolence for a Change.' This is a training programme for people with some experience of working with others to address injustices and make changes. You can sign up for the whole course, or just dip into the sessions that interest you. This course tends to be oversubscribed so get in touch as soon as you can. In ancient Greece the original Olympic Games were preceded by a fifty day holy truce and it was followed by a 50 day truce.  This was not only to allow competitors to travel in safety to Olympia but because the Games were regarded as a sacred event.  This is an invitation to celebrate One Hundred Days of Peace to promote a culture of peace in our communities.
