How to find us

Swarthmoor Hall is just outside the small lively market town of Ulverston, in the Lake District. Please see the map [PDF: 702kb - new window]

By rail

Ulverston  is 45 minutes from Lancaster station, which is about 2 1/2 hours from London Euston. Ulverston is on the Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness line
Ulverston railway station is a 15 minute walk from the Hall.
Taxis can be booked in advance for those people who would prefer not to walk. Please contact the Hall if you would like details of local taxi firms.

By road

Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston is just a 25 minute drive from junction 36 of the M6 motorway. For 'Sat-nav' users, the Hall's postcode is LA12 0JQ.

By coach

Stagecoach Cumberland service X35 runs regularly from Kendal to Ulverston.

Volunteering

Volunteers are welcomed for conservation work (woodland management & wildlife monitoring, and furniture, textile & book conservation), gardening (in our gardens, grounds and orchard), history (tours, archives & research, school visits), and office & general support. Please contact us for an enrolment form.
We also have a residential volunteer scheme - Friends in Residence for Friends or regular attenders of Quaker meetings. Please contact us for more details.
