Swarthmoor Hall - Historic house tours
Swarthmoor Hall is a 16th Century country house which has special significance for Quakers. It is known as the ‘Cradle of Quakerism’ because Judge Thomas Fell and his wife Margaret provided protection and hospitality for early Friends, notably George Fox and allowed the Hall to be a headquarters for the movement.
Today, the historic Hall is open for guided tours from 1.30 – 4.30pm Sunday to Thursday inclusive, from 26 February to 1 November and at other times by appointment. We offer an audio guide for individuals & small groups, and a personal house tour guide for large parties. Complimentary refreshments are provided.
Since the autumn of 2012 we have been developing programme of activities for school children linked to the National Curriculum, beginning with a programme for infants.
