Swarthmoor Hall
Swarthmoor Hall is an historic country house which has special significance for Quakers. It is known as the ‘Cradle of Quakerism’ because in the mid-17th Century it was the home of Judge Thomas Fell and his wife Margaret who provided protection and hospitality for early Friends, notably George Fox and allowed the Hall to be the principal headquarters for the movement.
Today, that tradition of hospitality remains. There is something for everyone and everyone is welcome. We offer:
- A programme of events - courses, workshops and retreats
- Historic house tours - for individuals and groups, including schools
- Holiday accommodation - self-catering, bed & breakfast, or full board
- Conference and meetings facilities
- Beautiful gardens and grounds - in which to wander, picnic, play or sit
The Hall is situated in beautiful rolling countryside. It is within a few minutes of the Lake District National Park and all that it has to offer: quaint villages, spectacular scenery of lakes & mountains and places to visit.
In 21012 Swarthmoor Hall’s publicity has a new look and feel. We are also developing a new website.
These pages are temporary and are limited in the amount of information they can provide. Please contact us at the Hall if you would like to know more about what we can offer.
I hope to welcome you to Swarthmoor Hall this year,
