Sustainability resources mailing
16 November, 2011
To local meeting clerks, convenors or correspondents
Dear Friends,
At Yearly Meeting Gathering in Canterbury in August the Yearly Meeting made a strong corporate
commitment to become a low-carbon, sustainable community. We agreed that the process should
be joyful and spirit-led. And we recognised the need to be “accountable to one another…tender
with one another, and to support one another through the grief and fear that radical change will
provoke”.
This special mailing contains resources to support Friends – individually, in our meetings, and
corporately – in living out this commitment.
The mailing contains:
- copies of Minute 36, Our Canterbury Commitment
- a DVD of the Swarthmore Lecture by Pam Lunn, Costing not less than everything
- a copy of the Sustainability Toolkit: Becoming a low-carbon, sustainable community
- copies of climate impact calculators for individuals and for meetings.
See www.quaker.org.uk/sustainability to:
- read these resources online
- request further copies
- access interactive versions of the climate impact calculators
- see details of the support, resources and courses that Living Witness, Quaker Peace & Social Witness, Woodbrooke and other Quaker bodies can offer.
To obtain further copies of the Sustainability Toolkit or the DVD please contact the Quaker Centre
in Friends House; see www.quaker.org.uk/shop or phone 020 7663 1030/1031.
We know that many Friends are already responding to this challenge and we hope these
resources will inspire and help us to grow as a low-carbon, sustainable community.
