Sustainability and peaceWhat is the work about?

The Sustainability and Peace programme aims to drive and support action and reflection to develop a Quaker witness to sustainability and peace. It helps Quakers and others to live more environmentally sustainable lives and to explore the connections between sustainability, economics and peace. We seek to influence governments and others in order to help transform Britain into a more sustainable society.

Why does it matter?

Quakers are called to live simpler low-carbon lives in response to climate change and other environmental crises and the threats they pose to the lives and livelihoods of millions of people and thousands of species. But for Quakers sustainable living is more than this, it is integral to embodying our commitment to all our Quaker testimonies.

Quakers are led to find ways of living that are equitable to all, do not contain the ‘seeds of war’, build community, and celebrate and maintain the integrity and beauty of creation.

In striving to live sustainably together we build peace and in bearing witness to peace we search for sustainable ways of living.

Who benefits from the work?

We support Quakers - through resources and events – to live more simply and sustainably, speak out and campaign, learn, reflect in worship and build community.
