Supporting Local Initiatives
What is the work about?
Supporting Local Initiatives (SLI) is a project coordinated by QPSW through which the staff based at Friends House offer comprehensive support and advice to Quaker projects. The support available ranges from guidance on communication strategies, to project planning to advice on leaflet design. In fact any skill we have within Friends House could be made available to the supported initiatives. The focus is on support and capacity building, rather than doing work on behalf of Quaker projects.
Why does it matter?
As a central body implementing projects addressing the concerns of Quakers, we have a staff with a huge variety of skills and experience. It uses our resources better if that expertise is made available to support the dynamic and world changing projects evolving from the concerns and energy of Quakers throughout Britain.
Who benefits from the work and how?
Currently SLI supports Liverpool Local Meeting Urban Outreach Project, Manchester and Warrington Social Justice Group, RESET (Prisoner Resettlement Project) arising from Maidstone Meeting and Quaker Bolivia Link – UK. For more information about each of these projects please visit the website. Each project can potentially achieve its objectives more effectively with our support!
What action can we take?
Consider whether your meeting has a project, or a project concept that could benefit from Supporting Local Initiatives. Currently this is a pilot project which will be evaluated. If it continues there will be a call for proposals in the autumn of 2011. Look out for further information!
