Enquiries

When you visit the Library staff will be pleased to help you, but we regret we cannot undertake research on your behalf.

We also accept enquiries by phone, letter, fax and email (Contact the Library), but we are unable to undertake lengthy or detailed research on behalf of enquirers. We aim to respond to email, postal and fax enquiries within 15 working days.

Copying

There are no self-service copying facilities, but staff can do copying for you.

Copies can be made from some printed books, pamphlets and periodicals, and from microfilm, for a charge. For conservation reasons photocopying of original documents has to be restricted; as a general rule we cannot photocopy from any item over 100 years old. Image reproduction

We can have photographic reproductions made of a wide range of our materials. Pictures Collection [Pdf: 49kb - new window], gives more information and a price list.

Microfilm reader

There is one reader-printer available in the Library that can be booked for up to 2 hours at a time. To make a booking please contact us . Please note that if you want to view the digest registers [Word: 197kb - new window] on microfilm there is a charge of £5 per hour.

Laptop computers

Readers may use their own laptop computers in the Library.

Reading room collection times

Many of our collections are stored in closed stacks. These materials can be requested and will be collected and delivered to the reading room by staff at regular intervals. At the moment the collection times are at 10.30, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00 and 16.30. To save time you can order items in advance of your visit.
