5 ways to witness for peace
We have all watched in horror as thousands of civilians are killed and displaced in Gaza, in response to the atrocious attacks by Hamas in Israel on 7 October. As Quakers in Britain we have felt compelled to speak out and take action and Friends across the country have too.

Military stand-off over Ukraine: 5 things you can do
On 25 January Quakers in Britain issued a statement urging all sides to "engage in urgent de-escalation and commit to resolving the stand-off over Ukraine peacefully". Since then, we have witnessed the continuation of the military build-up. Despite Russia's recent disputed announcement of a partial withdrawal of some troops, there is continued international concern that diplomacy may fail and that a terrible new war may break out.

Building a lasting peace: 25 years of the Good Friday Agreement
Most people over the age of about 35 with a connection to Northern Ireland will remember the Good Friday Agreement being signed. I do. Hospitals, schools, places of worship, roads, and homes have been decimated, and civilians have been targeted. Faith groups and human rights agencies across the world have called on the international community to act immediately to secure a ceasefire and work to ensure humanitarian aid and access.

5 ways to support women in immigration detention this International Women’s Day
Earlier this year I celebrated the centenary of women's right to vote in the UK. I remembered, though, that not all UK women had that right even after 1918. Worse, the state continues to ignore the human rights of many women in the UK today.

5 ways to make Quaker meeting houses work for the future
I'm always a bit anxious when we spend time worrying about Quaker property. Early Quaker George Fox was disparaging about 'steeple houses'. In his radical vision, going to a physical church was not necessary to experience God. Really it's the community that makes up the church, not the premises it meets in.
