All the pictures of Baoshan come from the remarkable collection of photographs by Sydney D. Bailey (1916-1995) who served in Burma and China. The collection includes three albums of black and white prints and a rare group of colour slides depicting both scenes in China and en route.

Sydney Bailey's story of his conversion to Christian pacifism and his service with the FAU are told in his 1993 Swarthmore Lecture Peace is a Process. After the war, he became a leading authority on international peace work and particularly the role of the UN. He and his wife Brenda directed the Quaker United Nations Office in New York from 1954-1958 and were closely involved with the Geneva office.
