Quakers ask for priorities in Millenium Development Goals to fight poverty
QPSW, as a member of BOND (the membership body for UK NGOs working in international development) has signed a letter to David Cameron and Nick Clegg, to highlight the key priorities of UK NGOs for the upcoming UN MDG (Millennium Development Goals) Review Summit in New York on 20-22 September. This Summit is a critical milestone for the eight MDGs, most of which are unlikely to be met by the target date of 2015. The letter draws attention to a joint statement signed by over 50 UK NGOs fighting global poverty outlining their priorities for the MDG Summit, and asks the UK Government to ensure concrete outcomes there. It also notes our appreciation that BOND members will be able to discuss the Government’s key priorities ahead of the UN MDG Review Summit at the public event with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Secretary of State Andrew Mitchell on 15 September in London.
On 20-22 September 2010, the General Assembly will hold a High-level Plenary Meeting in New York, also referred to as the "UN MDG Review Summit".
