Equality, prosperity and growth: where do we stand?

A discussion with Tim Jackson and Kate Pickett, facilitated by Susan Seymour
Tim Jackson’s Prosperity Without Growth: Economics for a finite planet argues that the ecosystems that sustain our economies are collapsing under the impact of rising consumption and that we must devise a path to prosperity that doesn’t rely on continued economic growth.
In The Spirit Level: Why more equal societies almost always do better Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett present evidence showing that it’s not just the poor who suffer from inequality, but the whole of society.
Kate and Tim will talk about the issues and evidence presented in their respective books. In dialogue with the audience they will address questions such as:
- What do we mean by prosperity?
- Is the environmental crisis too great to worry about equality?
- How can we meet the needs of all on a finite planet?
- What can ordinary people do?
