Oil Tanks on Meeting House Premises

  1. The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 take effect from September 2005 for containers used for oil storage prior to September 2001. (For new tanks installed since 2001 they have already taken effect, and the contractor responsible should have taken this into account).
  2. Meetings will need to be aware of the possible requirement for action under these Regulations in maintaining oil tanks on Meeting House premises. Guidance can be found on the website http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/  (by clicking on Business and Industry on the Home Page, then on Improving your Environmental Performance, Preventing Pollution, Pollution Prevention Guidance Notes (PPGs), the guidance will be found in Above Ground Oil Storage Tanks PPG02.  There is a useful checklist at Appendix A which indicates what action if any may be required.
