Promoting peace education
“Peace education should be seen as an integral part of our testimony.”
Quaker faith & practice 23.84
Would your meeting like to provide education for peace for local schools, either in the school or at your meeting house? Would you like to produce attractive and stimulating resources to do this?
I regularly hear from meetings that want to run events for local schools and from teachers nationally, who would be interested in having a Quaker-led session on peace and conflict at their school. When it comes to the crunch however, meetings occasionally decide they were being too ambitious and so the event gets shelved or meetings are unable to find a Friend willing and able to go into their local school.
Therefore, Quaker Peace & Social Witness is planning training for Friends to give them the confidence to offer peace education sessions and to host events in their meeting house.
The use of existing resources will be covered, but trainees will also be shown how to develop resources themselves.
The training will be held at Woodbrooke from Friday 8–Sunday 10 May 2009, and is being developed in collaboration with Quaker Life and Quaker Communications Department.
