Make a mark for peace
Quaker Peaceworkers appeal in 2008-09
Quakers have a history of peacebuilding. With your help, we fund placements for peaceworkers to make their mark by giving them hands-on experience of peace work. With your help, we enable small peace organisations to make their mark by providing with vital extra resources.
Together, we can make a mark for peace.
Can you send me an appeal pack?

How will the appeal work?
We're inviting each Quaker meeting to choose one or more of our placement groups to learn about and raise money for during 2009. Once your meeting has chosen its placement group, we'll send out some introductory information about the placements. Then, in the new year, we'll send out an Appeal Pack for each chosen group, full of material to help you learn about Quaker peace placements, and ideas to inspire you to raise awareness and funds to support the work.
What are the placement groups?
Rebuild Societies - Two peaceworkers are based in Burundi, working alongside the American Friends Service Committee to encourage community groups working to build a lasting peace after years of interethnic violence.
Promote Dialogue - two peaceworkers placed at the Quaker United Nations Office to help give a voice to the voiceless among the world's leaders and policymakers, supporting work on human rights and disarmament.
Strengthen Peace - four peaceworkers support organisations in the UK working for an end to the arms trade; a ban on the use of depleted uranium weaponry; peace and reconciliation across community and faith groups; and the promotion of peace education among children and young people.
What if my meeting wants to support more than one placement group?
We're very pleased to have as much support as possible for this valuable work. If your meeting would like appeal packs for more than one group of placements, simply let us know. Some of the material will be the same across the packs but there is plenty to learn about and donations can go to any combination of placement groups.
