October 2010 letter to QPSW correspondents
Dear QPSW Correspondent,
Enclosed with this mailing are a number of things to bring to the attention of your meeting. We have experimented with putting this information in a leaflet. Let me know if this is helpful and also if you would like additional copies. You should find information about:-
QPSW Conferences and Events in 2011
- Annual Spring Conference
- Quakers and Transition Initiatives
- Economic Justice and the Sustainable Global Society
Opportunities to put faith into action
Updates/Reminders
- Learning from Experience: Personal narratives from the Criminal Justice System
- Peace 350 workshop
- QPSW Relief Grants
Much of this information has been included in the monthly mailings recently and a number of you have asked why we send information to both you and your local meeting clerks. There are two reasons. Firstly, they may not have been seen within the many other pieces of information included in the monthly mailings and we need you to ensure that attention is drawn to them. Secondly, not all local meetings have a QPSW correspondent and we still need to ensure that all meetings receive this information.
You may find it easier to raise the items in this mailing over a period of weeks or, if you know that certain Friends have an interest in some of these areas, ask them to deal with those items.
Sharing Contact Details
We have been thinking about ways of enabling you to support each other, exchanging information and hearing from Friends who have attended events. Last year, the Area Meeting representatives who attended the Zero Growth Economy weekend were asked to ensure that local meetings were briefed on the outcome of the weekend and were advised to contact the QPSW correspondents within their Area Meeting. Unfortunately many representatives did not have contact details for these Friends and were not certain who they were. A similar situation may arise following future conferences. We are also thinking that some work we do in the future e.g. geographically based events, speakers tours, may require Friends to communicate within geographic areas not necessarily limited to area meetings.
We expect to ask you in future to give your consent for us to share your contact details with other nearby Friends. Our thinking is at a formative stage and we thought it would be helpful to give you an opportunity to comment now, before we ask you more formally at a later time. It would help if you could contact us if you would not be happy for us to share your details as described above or if you can see any general problems, as this will inform our thinking.
As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.
In friendship,
Anne Wilkinson
