Yearly Meeting 2012 will be held from 25-28 May 2012 at Friends House, London. The children's programme (ages 0 - 12) will also be based at Friends House with the young people's programme (ages 12 - 15) and Junior Yearly Meeting's (ages 15 - 18) programme nearby. Background: Quaker decision on same sex relationships

At their Yearly Meeting in York in 2009, Quakers in Britain sought a change in the law so that same sex marriages can be prepared, celebrated, witnessed, reported to the state, and recognised as legally valid, without further process, in the same way as opposite sex marriages are celebrated in Quaker meetings.  Quakers consider that they should be able to follow the insights of their membership in celebrating life-long committed relationships between a man and a man, or a woman and a woman, in exactly the same way as they …(read more)



Boycotting settlement produce

One of the biggest barriers to peace in the Israeli Palestinian conflict is the presence of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The settlements are illegal under international humanitarian law. They cause harm and poverty to Palestinians and are an obstacle to peace.

The international community, including the UK government and the European Union has repeatedly condemned the settlements. Yet, settlements have grown and prospered. And, despite their illegality, many countries are trading with them.…(read more)


Update for Friends on 'Occupy London Stock Exchange'

As the City of London Corporation gives notice to the Occupy London Stock Exchange activists to clear the "public highway" by 6pm on 17 November, Quakers in Britain have made a public declaration of support for the protesters.

Low carbon future for Quakers


Quakers in Britain have today committed their whole movement to becoming a low-carbon, sustainable community. They have always tried to lead simple lives but this decision goes further. It means every Quaker in Britain will be urged and supported to reduce their carbon footprint.


A plan is being drawn up to turn this commitment into action and members have agreed to support each other and hold each other to account to achieve it.…(read more)
