News Release - Head of Communications leaves Quaker post

News Release
26 January 2011

Rachel Rees, one of the senior managers of Quakers in Britain has resigned. She has been Head of Communications and Fundraising for Britain Yearly Meeting for five years and will leave her post in February.

Reflecting on the work of Friends House, Rachel Rees said: “I am proud of the progress made in the past five years. From better press for Quakers to a coherent visual identity and vastly improved website, our communication is much more effective. It has also been good to see the warm response of meetings to our fundraising challenge. These are hard times, and our financial commitment to our Quaker and local communities is vital. There are so many people searching for this hidden gem, the Quaker way - when we set up Quaker Week we felt that, and the response has proved us right. I hope that meetings will continue to grow yet more confident in promoting what we have to offer.”

Michael Hutchinson, Acting Recording Clerk said: “Rachel has been a very valued colleague whose clarity, energy and expertise, has contributed greatly to our work. She has established communications as central to all we do.  We are sorry to lose her but wish her well for her future. We look forward to seeing her at Yearly Meeting Gathering and other Quaker events.”

Robert Gibson, clerk of Quaker Communications Central Committee said: “Rachel Rees has made a superb contribution professionally and personally to Quaker communications. Under her watch, communications and fundraising has become focused and professional. I will miss her unique ways and our professional partnership.”
