Many Heavens, One Earth: Faiths, the Environment and Copenhagen

Click here to read our press release.

As we look to Copenhagen and beyond faith groups are stepping up their action on sustainability. United with a common purpose this could become the planet’s largest civil society movement for change.

The evening featured presentations from leading United Nations, scientific and religious figures as well as song and dance.

Speakers included:

  • Olav Kjorven – Assistant Secretary General, United Nations
  • Nigel Savage – founder of the Jewish environmental NGO Hazon
  • Sally Bingham – Power and Light

Many Heavens, One Earth was a public event at the end of a 3 day meeting, organised by the Alliance of Religions and Conservation, between faith leaders and the UN ahead of the Global Climate Conference in Copenhagen.

A seven-year summary was presented by Quakers at the 3-day meeting. This document is at a very early exploratory stage and has not yet been considered by any decision making body, and may well change.
