Junior Yearly Meeting (JYM) returns
11 Oct 2005
The Children and Young People's Staff Team (CYPST) of Quaker Life announces the return of Junior Yearly Meeting - the dates for JYM are Sunday April 9th to Thursday April 13th.
It is a spiritual gathering of about 140 16-19 year olds from around the country and a few Friends from European Yearly Meetings. JYM aims to bring these young Quakers together, to explore a theme, within the context of Quakerism. Particpants are nominated to be representatives by their Monthly Meeting or Quaker School, this means that the young people report back after the event.
The event is organised, Clerked and facilitated by 16-19 year olds in partnership with over 20's. Throughout the event we hope to provide a lively, stimulating, yet fun atmosphere, in which young Friends will be encouraged to challenge themselves. The programme is a combination of sessions, speakers, workshops and small groups, using Quaker methods and worship, which provide the framework of the safe, caring environment, which is JYM. The theme this year is:
"Who Am I?"
Exploring the self in an unselfish way, living truthfully in challenging times and developing our identity.
If you would like to know more about JYM, why not speak to a young person who has attended before? You could phone the Children and Young Peoples Office on 020 7663 1013 or email us at bevelies@quaker.org.uk.
