Handbook for Trustees (AMs)

Related pages: Trustees

This handbook produced by Quaker Stewardship Committee focuses on trusteeship in a Quaker context. It offers guidance for Quaker meetings about the exercise of this role. It is designed primarily for area meetings; we hope that Friends generally will find it useful. This handbook covers the following areas in some detail:

  • Charity law and trusteeship
  • What does trusteeship involve?
  • The governing document
  • Terms of reference for trustees
  • Financial aspects
  • Trustees' annual report
  • Useful sources of information

Originally published in March 2007, the handbook was updated in March 2009. The Handbook for Trustees [PDF: 314kb - new window] is not intended as a definitive guide, nor is the content meant to be prescriptive. It amplifies and discusses aspects of trusteeship which are treated more definitively in some of the publications listed in its final section.

The March 2009 edition will not be printed by Friends House but, of course, all or any part of the PDF can be printed by recipients who wish to have hard copy. For possessors of the printed original, the few important differences between that and the new version are summarised in Handbook for Trustees revisions for March 2009 edition [PDF: 73kb - new window]
