Fundraising

Quakers work for a better world. We express our faith in action, standing alongside people who face injustice, violence and disadvantage. Our work is pioneering and inspiring, and we show how the Quaker way can change attitudes and open possibilities.

Quakers work both locally and globally.  Quakers up and down Britain open their meeting houses to community groups and forge links with local faith and social organisations. And across the world, Quakers work for peace, social justice, an end to conflict. On behalf of British Quakers, Britain Yearly Meeting supports peacemakers in east Africa, stands with the poor in India, speaks truthfully to the people in power at the UN in Geneva. And you can help.

Did you know...

  • that 45% of people shop online, but only 12% of people donate online?
  • that a gift in your will is one of the most valuable ways to support us?
  • that Everyclick is an easy way for you to support us, for free, right now?

Fundraising isn't just about income for our projects: it can be fun, bring people together, and strengthen the life and witness of our meetings.

18 July 2009 - " A quintessentially English tea party" for the Peaceworkers AppealQuintessentially English tea party at Clun Valley
On a beautiful sunny afternoon in southern Shropshire, the Quakers of Clun Valley meeting met with friends for a fundraising tea party to raise money for the Quaker Peaceworkers Appeal. Clun Valley meeting has taken a particular interest in Sarah Hulme's work at St Ethelburga's Centre in London. Clun Valley is a small meeting of just 15, but "each Friend brought a friend" and doubled their numbers. The atmosphere was peaceful, and one member commented on how it was "a quintessentially English tea party". With a variety of cakes, sandwiches and hot drinks, the party even included a tombola and a stall for the Peaceworkers Appeal. Clun Valley's "tea-goers" raised £238 for the appeal, and Friends were able to raise awareness of the Peaceworkers programme among their friends. Enjoyable events like this, of any size, are making a real difference to this year's Appeal. Our thanks to Clun Valley for their generosity and enthusiasm! If you'd like some advice on hosting an event at your meeting, please get in touch.

15 May 2009 - Quakers are answering the call for east Africa
BYM's Grants Officer, Paul Simon, reports that fundraising for Quaker peace work in east Africa is gathering pace. "Quaker work in Burundi, helping local people to build a peaceful future and get through a difficult set of elections in 2010, is exciting new work which responds to our great concern for peace," Paul says. "Individual Friends as well as trusts are showing great interest in this work and we're delighted with their response and their support for the Quaker approach there - empowering, practical and respectful." The project has great ambition - and needs your support too. Click here to give now, or to find out more about the work, please email us.
