Friends to China
Why not pop into the Library to see the new exhibition ‘Friends to China’?
The exhibition focuses on two particular periods of involvement. The first, from the 1880s to the 1930s, considers the educational, pastoral and medical work of the Friends Foreign Mission Association in the Sichuan province of west China, where the first Chinese Yearly Meeting was founded in 1904.
The second, from 1941 to 1946, commemorates the work of the Friends Ambulance Unit’s China Convoy in transporting humanitarian supplies and providing medical assistance to the war-ravaged country.
Sadly, the area where the FFMA worked in the early years has recently been devastated by the earthquake of May 2008. Details of the Quaker China Group appeal for earthquake victims accompany the display.
