Fire Safety

The fire safety law changed in October 2006. The new law:
- Makes it your responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone who uses your premises and in the immediate vicinity
- Emphasises preventing fires and reducing risk
- Does away with the need for fire certificates
- Applies to virtually all premises including places of worship
- Requires you to carry out Fire Safety Risk Assessments
A set of guides has been developed by the government to tell you what you have to do to comply with fire safety law, help you to carry out a fire risk assessment and identify the general fire precautions you need to have in place.
It is suggested that the following will be appropriate for most Meetings.
- Entry Level Guide - A short Guide to making your premises safe from fire
- Guide 6 - Small & Medium Places of Assembly
These guides and further information can be downloaded free at http://www.firesafetyguides.communities.gov.uk/.
Should you be unable to download the guides contact Kevin Ellis at Friends House on 020 7663 1085 or kevine@quaker.org.uk and he will mail a hard copy to you.
