Fairtrade Fortnight: Take a step for Fairtrade in 2012
Fairtrade Fortnight is 27 February - 1 March 2012
As part of our commitment to highlight and challenge the injustices of the present economic system, QPSW supports Fairtrade. In addition, many Local or Area Quaker Meetings have committed to use Fairtrade products and have achieved, or are working towards gaining Fairtrade Church or Fairtrade Denominational Area status.
This year’s Fairtrade Fortnight (27 February - 1 March 2012) launches a year of events and activities designed to take Fairtrade further. Fairtrade supporters are being asked to ‘take a step for Fairtrade’.
There is much that individual Friends and Meetings can do to get involved. This could be a small step – like completing a ‘take a step’ pledge postcard – or it could be a bigger one – such as working with others in your community to hold a Fairtrade fete or Fairtrade walk.
There are plenty of other ideas and suggestions in the 2012 Fairtrade Church Action Guide [PDF: 4 Mb - new window] which you can download. [It is a large PDF file and may take some time to open].
Hard copies of the guide are available from Suzanne Ismail or telephone: 020 7663 1055.
You can also download posters, leaflets, flyers and tools to create your own Fairtrade resources or you can order a free event pack containing resources including stickers, ‘take a step’ pledge postcards and a set of posters.
Ensure that your Meeting uses Fairtrade products
If your Meeting doesn’t already use Fairtrade products Fairtrade Fortnight is a great opportunity to initiate this.
You can now buy a whole range of Fairtrade products including tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, biscuits, dried and fresh fruit. Find out what else is available.
Commit to achieving Fairtrade status
Local Meetings can become Fairtrade Places of Worship. Area Meetings can become Fairtrade Denominational Areas. For information about what this requires and the how to apply see ‘Getting Fairtrade Status’.
If your Meeting is involved in any Fairtrade Fortnight events please let Suzanne Ismail in QPSW know on 020 7663 1055
Why not share what you are doing with others through the Quakernomics blog?
