Growing in the spirit – changing the way we live to sustain the world we live in

The word “sustainability” might evoke images of bikes, climate protest, kitchen gardens and recycling centres. We often hear the dire warnings on environmental chaos and economic retrenchment: “We must build a sustainable economy!”

Earlier this summer, Quakers in Britain held the first combined Yearly Meeting, Summer Gathering and Junior Yearly Meeting. 1,700 Quakers, members and attenders, old and young, gathered for a week of worship, community and decision-making at the University of York.
