Outreach is the sharing of information on Quaker convictions, beliefs, practices with the general public. We are not out to convert people but to point them to the divine light that is in them. As well as working nationally on behalf of Britain Yearly Meeting, the Outreach Section encourages all Friends in the practice of sharing their spiritual journeys with others and listening to the journeys of other people.
What impact does being Quaker have on what we do with our lives? It is often said that Quakers don’t have a theology, that our lives are our Quakerism: so are we being Quaker, or doing Quaker?
The third in a series of Quaker Life conferences exploring our faith and practice will be the first all-age faith and practice conference. Through this participatory event we seek to discover what it is that holds us together in all our rich diversity.
The outreach team in Quaker Life maintains a number of leaflets for local meetings to use in outreach. These are all available free from the Quaker Centre for local meetings, and electronic copies are also available from this page. The versions here are low-resolution PDFs suitable for the web. If you intend to print them locally, please contact Louisa Wright for a high-resolution version.
Taking up the post of Outreach Development Officer here at Friends House at the beginning of September meant that the approach of Quaker Week 2010 loomed large on my horizon, says Alastair Fuller.
These are our various recent series of outreach posters, roughly in chronological order (newest at the top). They are suitable for printing locally, especially if you want smaller (A4 or A3) versions of them: we normally produce posters in a standard, large, B2 format. If you want the original, very high resolution, artwork, please contact the outreach team: outreach@quaker.org.uk.
These “how to” guides aim to help you plan outreach work, particularly around Quaker Week. We have included ideas for Quaker Week activities, sessions for working with your meeting around outreach and advice on advertising, media work and making your meeting house attractive. The 2010 guide is an updated reissue of the 2009 one.
Tom Harris led the team that supported meetings during National Quaker Week this year. He looks back at what meetings got up to, and reviews plans for the future.
Quaker meetings across the country took part in Quaker Week 2008 in October, raising awareness of Quaker meetings and the Quaker way by doing lots of wonderful outreach activities.
