Will your anchor hold?

I went to the first meeting of my anchor group yesterday and it felt like stepping out of a whirlpool of activity into a calm sea of reflection.

There are so many people here that I am glad of an opportunity to get to know a little about the experience of these few friends throughout the week.

We have decided to talk each day about our reactions to the sessions we have attended and to tell each other about the other groups and activities which we have taken part in. Perhaps this will go some way towards allaying that age-old YM and YMG problem - But I want to go to Everything!

The name anchor group strikes a particular chord with me which, in the spirit of what began as a musical YMG I share with you here.

I first heard, and sang, this in a Quaker mission meeting at Pakefield, near Lowestoft in Suffolk!

This used to be the 'anthem' of the Boys' Brigade and was often played in church when I was growing up. I had no idea Quakers ran seaside missions!
